Care Guide

Light

The Ficus Benjamina will thrive in a location which receives medium to bright, indirect or filtered light. Direct sun can burn this plants leaves and should be avoided. Low lighting should also be avoided, as it is not sufficient for the Benjamina.

Water and Soil

Ficus do best with soil which is lightly moist. Allow the top inch or so of soil to dry out between watering, and take extra care to ensure the soil never becomes wet, soggy or waterlogged, as this can quickly damage the plant. It is always best to err on the side of underwatering, as it is much easier to recover from than a lack of water. Ficus do best with a well draining yet absorbent soil. Amending a standard potting mix with perlite, bark, or charcoal will add drainage, while the addition of peat or coco coir will help with moisture absorbency.

Temperature and Humidity

This plant prefers indoor growing temperatures of 65 to 75 degrees F. While the Alii does just fine in low to average humidity, this plant will experience faster growth and better overall health in medium to high humidity humidity. Providing your Ficus with extra humidity through a humidifier, pebble tray or regular misting is beneficial.
