Fern and Foliage Terrarium Plant Assortment

While these 2” plants will make the perfect addition to a closed terrarium, fairy garden, or any other style of enclosure, they can also simply be enjoyed as stand-alone potted plants. If re-potting into a traditional pot, we suggest staying with a smaller 2-3" size until the plants roots and foliage fill out that container and warrant something larger.

Care Guide

Light

Generally, all of the terrarium plants which we offer will do well in medium to bright indirect light exposures. Some varieties such as fittonia or types of ferns can tolerate lower light exposures. As a rule, harsh direct sunlight exposure should be avoided with houseplants.

Water and Soil

As a rule, young terrarium plants will do best with evenly moist soil. While your terrarium plant remains in its original 2” pot, its soil will dry out much more quickly than a larger houseplant. For this reason, we suggest checking your terrarium plants soil moisture level more often than you may your other plants. Once the plant is potted into a larger container, it can be treated normally, and watered once the top level (1-2" or so) of soil is dry.

Temperature and Humidity

Terrarium plants will do best at standard household temperatures of 65 to 85 degrees. Temperatures of below 60 degrees should be avoided, as the cold can damage these plants delicate young foliage. Most terrarium plants enjoy above average to high humidity, making a closed terrarium the perfect environment.
