$28.00 Regular price $34.00

Homalomena are tropical perennials native to South America. Hardy to around 65°F, the Wood Lilies grow from large underground tubers. The leaves of the Wood Lily are heart-shaped and are either emerald green or deep purple in color, depending on the species. The flowers of all Wood Lilies consist of six tepals (petals and sepals) radiating out from a center point. Members of this genus show a variety of sizes, heights, and leaf shapes: One species, Homalomena biflora, is known as ‘Emerald Gem.’

Care Guide

Light

This plant thrives in medium to bright filtered or indirect light. Avoid direct sun as this could damage this plants foliage.

Water and Soil

This plant prefers a standard well draining potting soil that is allowed to dry by about 30% between waterings. Amending the soil with perlite can help to increase drainage. Do not allow the plant to sit with "wet feet" or for the soil to remain overly wet for too long as this could damage this plants roots.

Temperature and Humidity

Homalomena does well in warm indoor temperatures ranging from 65 to 80 degrees F. Temperatures below 50 degrees F should be avoided as this plant will not tolerate them. Average household humidity levels work well for this plant.

What Else?

Be sure to trim up your plant occasionally to keep its shape. Remove any dead, discolored, damaged, or diseased leaves and stems using clean, sharp scissors. Snip stems just above a leaf node.
