The Golden Gem Rubber Tree is native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. Placing your rubber tree in direct sunlight will help maintain its bright yellow coloration throughout its life span in your home.

Care Guide

Light

The Golden Gem Ficus requires medium to bright indirect light. Avoid extremes like direct light, which can burn this plants leaves, and low light which can cause loss of variegation. Turn your plant every so often in order to encourage even growth.

Water and Soil

Ficus Golden Gem will need more water once the top 2” or so of soil has been allowed to dry. As this plant is susceptible to overwatering, make sure the top layer of soil is no longer moist before providing more water. This Ficus will need a well-draining soil. The addition of perlite and/or bark will help with added drainage.

Temperature and Humidity

Ficus altissima prefers a warm, room-temperature setting between 60 and 80 degrees F. The normal humidity of an average home works just fine. Your Ficus will appreciate added humdity in the winter months, which can be provided with a humidifier, pebble tray, or through misting. Do not let your Golden Gem drop below 55 degrees F as it can damage this plants foliage.

What Else?

The large, glossy leaves of the Ficus are magnets for dust. It is important for respiration and photosynthesis that the leaves are wiped clean with a wet sponge or towel every so often. As with all toxic house plants, take care when placed in a home with pets or children.
