Philodendron Brandi is native to tropical America and thrives in warm climates. This plant works great for hanging baskets as it has a cascading growing habit. Philodendron brandtianum has a heart shaped leaf that is olive green with grey mottling, giving it the common name of "Silver Leaf Philodendron".

Care Guide

Light

This plant thrives in medium to bright filtered light; however, as with many species of philodendron, it can tolerate lower light and still prosper.

Water and Soil

This philodendron prefers rich soil that is amended with peat moss and kept fairly moist during the growing season. During the winter this plant likes to dry out a little more between watering, however, water when the top of soil is dry during the spring and summer.

Temperature and Humidity

Philodendron Brandi does well in warm indoor temperatures ranging from 70 to 80 degrees F. Temperatures below 55 degrees F should be avoided as this plant will not tolerate them. Misting your plants foliage between watering will promote larger leaves, however, the humidity of the average home will do.

What Else?

Be sure to trim up your plant occasionally to keep its shape. Remove any dead, discolored, damaged, or diseased leaves and stems using clean, sharp scissors. Snip stems just above a leaf node. Then, if you wish to propagate your trimmings simply place them in water, covering at least one node. Rinse the leaves of this plant when dusty.
