Care Guide

Light

Pilea peperomioides prefers medium to bright filtered or indirect light. Lower light conditions should be avoided, as this plant needs bright sun to thrive. Rotating your Pilea Peperomioides often will encourage even growth.

Water and Soil

This plant likes to dry slightly between watering. Pilea Peperomioides will like to be watered once the top half of its soil has dried (around 2” deep). Well-draining potting soil that is amended with a bit of peat moss and perlite or vermiculite works well for Pilea peperomioides.

Temperature and Humidity

Chinese Money Plant will prefer room temperatures between 65 degrees F and 85 degrees F. Temperatures below 60 may be damaging to this plants foliage, and should be avoided. Pilea Peperomioides does fine with standard household humidity levels, however, it would certainly appreciate higher humidity.

What Else?

Pilea peperomioides are easy to propagate by separating pups from the mother plant. These pups can be potted in soil or water propagated for additional root development. These new plants can be grown into larger plants that will reproduce again and again, creating plenty of plants to be given to friends and family, hence the name “Friendship Plant.”

If you notice white spots on your Pilea, they are most likely caused by salts and chemicals in your water. Using distilled water will remedy this. Additionally, simply allowing your tap water to sit out overnight in an uncovered container will help, as this will work to remove some of the chlorine and fluoride.
