Sansevieria Superba 'Black Coral' | Bird's Nest Snake Plant
Sansevieria trifasciata is a tropical plant native to West Africa from Nigeria to the Congo. The unique tough, stiff pointed foliage makes Sansevieria one of the hardiest houseplants, and has inspired many names including Snake Plant, Saint George's Sword, Mother-in-Law's Tongue, and Viper's Bowstring Hemp.

Care Guide
Light
Sansevieria is popular in part for its ability to grow in lower light exposures. However, Sansevieria will best thrive in medium to bright indirect light. Direct light should be avoided as it can burn this plants leaves.
Water and Soil
Sansevieria tend to thrive on neglect, and should only be watered when their soil is dry. Snake plants will not tolerate overwatering, so it is always best to err on the side of underwatering. As these plants do not like their soil to remain wet, a well-draining mix is essential. This can be accomplished by amending a standard potting mix with bark, perlite, and/or lava rock. Terracotta pots are a great fit for snake plants, as they help to guard against overwatering by pulling excess moisture from the soil.
Temperature and Humidity
Sansevieria does well in temperatures between 60 and 80 degrees F. Cold drafts and temperatures below 55 degrees F may damage this plants foliage and should be avoided. While this plant does fine in low humidity, it would be very appreciative of some added humidity.
What Else?
Sansevieria cuttings can be easily rooted in water or soil. Simply cut a leaf from its base to remove it from the plant. We like to make this cut into an upward triangle shape, increasing the surface area which roots can develop from. Once the cut has calloused over (1-2 days), the cutting can be placed cut side down in water, or moistened soil. If rooting in water, a clear container is best for promoting root growth. Just be sure that the submersion level is minimal – you need just enough water to cover the base of the leaf, immersing the cut area.
