Senecio radicans is native to South Africa, and goes by the name self-explanatory name “String of Bananas”. Like its more well-known cousin, the “String of Pearls”, this trailing succulent is a favorite for hanging baskets and grouped with other plants in containers.

Care Guide

Light

String of Bananas needs bright indirect or filtered light to thrive. Avoid harsh direct sun as this can damage or burn this plant.

Water and Soil

String of Bananas is a low maintenance plant, and it can stand to dry out a bit between waterings. Water only when the top 2” or more of soil feel dry. Well-draining potting soil that is amended with a bit of perlite and peat moss is perfect for this plant.

Temperature and Humidity

When grown indoors, String of Bananas does best with room temperatures between 65 and 85 degrees F. This vining succulent does fine at standard household humidity levels, but it can benefit from occasional added humidity.
